The Kraken
The full four-stage encounter specification: stages, attacks and their tells, the team-fishing finale, ranks, failure conditions and drops.
The Kraken is a four-stage, capture-not-kill deep-ocean encounter on a shared seven-minute timer, ending in a boss version of the fishing minigame. This is the full specification. What is buildable now, what waits on boats, and why Stage 4 gets built first are on the plan.
The encounter
| Field | Design |
|---|---|
| Encounter Type | Rare deep-ocean world event built around positioning, teamwork, timing, harpoon mechanics, and final-stage fishing skill. |
| Core Goal | Capture the Kraken before time runs out. The encounter is not completed by simply killing it with normal weapons. |
| Arena | A half-sunken shipwreck becomes the centerpiece of the fight. Small harpoon rowboats spawn around it while the Kraken circles the wreck. |
| Atmosphere | Fog rolls in, the sky darkens, waves become violent, floating wreck debris appears, and tentacles periodically emerge from the sea. |
| Boss Health | 100% health divided into four equal quarters. Each quarter corresponds to one encounter stage. |
| Shared Timer | Recommended base timer: 7:00. All four stages must be completed before the Kraken escapes. Remaining time is used for Arena zone fishing Rare+ & Trophy Rate UP. Required for Abyssworm. |
| Encounter Boundary | A large circular arena surrounds the wreck. Players who remain outside the encounter area too long are removed from the fight. |
| Victory Condition | Complete all harpoon phases, hook the Kraken with fishing lines, survive the final pull, and reduce the final capture meter to zero before time expires. |
Stages
| Stage | Objective | Threats | Rule and transition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 - Three Harpoons 100% → 75% · 3 boats | Row all three harpoon boats into separate highlighted positions and land all three harpoons. | Single large waves, boat pushback, rotation, lost aim, early tentacle slams. | Recommended synchronization rule: once the first harpoon lands, the other two must connect within ~10 seconds or earlier lines are ripped free. Success: All 3 harpoons are locked onto the Kraken. Kraken breaks the lines, dives, and reappears more aggressively. |
| Stage 2 - Two Harpoons 75% → 50% · 2 boats | Position two remaining boats farther apart and successfully connect both harpoons. | Double waves from different directions, tentacle slam warning zones, boat damage and displacement. | Both harpoons should land within the synchronization window. A failed sync forces players to reposition. Success: Both boats lock their harpoons. The Kraken tears free and begins controlling more of the arena. |
| Stage 3 - Final Harpoon 50% → 25% · 1 boat | Guide the final boat through the most dangerous version of the arena and fire the last harpoon. | Larger/faster waves, whirlpools, tentacle slams, floating debris, charges, underwater movement, possibly a moving target zone. | Only one harpoon is needed, but the highlighted firing position is difficult to hold. Success: Final harpoon connects and remains tethered to the wreck. The Kraken becomes tethered; boat phase ends and the final fishing phase begins. |
| Stage 4 - Final Catch 25% → Captured · no boats | All players cast fishing lines into the Kraken and physically reel it alongside the shipwreck. | Massive tension, sudden dives, surface thrashes, ink clouds, direction changes, final escape surge. | Multiple players may hook simultaneously. Stronger equipment contributes greater pull strength. Too much tension can snap lines; too little allows the Kraken to regain distance. Success: Team reduces the capture meter to zero and survives the final surge. Timer saves completion time and the server-wide Legendary Catch announcement is triggered. Remaining time is used for Arena zone fishing Rare+&Trophy Rate UP |
Attacks and arena mechanics
| Mechanic | Warning | Effect | Response |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken Wave Stage 1 | ⚠ KRAKEN WAVE INCOMING | Traveling wave pushes and rotates boats, interrupting harpoon alignment. | Steer through gaps, angle away, or rapidly reposition after impact. |
| Double Waves Stage 2 | Two wave lines form from separate directions. | Overlapping waves make stationary positioning unsafe. | Find the safe lane between wave fronts. |
| Tentacle Slam Stage 2 | Glowing danger zone appears on the water. | Tentacle crashes into the marked location, damaging and pushing boats. | Exit the marked area before impact. |
| Whirlpool Stage 3 | Water begins spiraling and pulling nearby debris. | Boats are pulled toward the center and lose positional control. | Row against the current or navigate around the pull radius. |
| Underwater Reposition Stage 3 | Kraken silhouette moves below the water. | Kraken relocates and may shift the highlighted harpoon position. | Track the silhouette and anticipate its resurfacing point. |
| Sudden Dive Stage 4 | Kraken drops sharply beneath the surface. | Line tension spikes very quickly. | Stop reeling and allow safe line movement. |
| Surface Thrash Stage 4 | Violent body/tentacle movement at the surface. | Safe tension zone becomes narrow and unstable. | Make small tension corrections rather than full-force reeling. |
| Ink Cloud Stage 4 | Kraken releases dark ink around the arena. | Visibility is reduced temporarily. | Use UI tension indicators and team callouts. |
| Final Surge Stage 4 | ⚠ KRAKEN ENRAGED | Kraken makes one huge final escape attempt at very low capture health. | All hooked players hold safe tension until the surge ends. |
Final catch rules
| Rule | Specification |
|---|---|
| Hooking | All participating players may cast into the Kraken during Stage 4. |
| Pull Strength | Each attached line contributes pulling strength; stronger rods, reels, hooks, line, and related boss bonuses contribute more. |
| Tension - Too High | ⚠ LINE CRITICAL - line can snap if the player continues reeling through extreme tension. |
| Tension - Too Low | ⚠ KRAKEN ESCAPING - Kraken begins recovering distance / capture progress. |
| Reconnection | A player whose line snaps may recast, but the lost time makes the shared encounter timer more dangerous. |
| Equipment Relevance | Line Strength, Reel Speed, Control, Hook Strength, rod tier, boss passives, and food buffs all matter during the final phase. |
| Example Party | Chango • Megapixle • GarretRAF • Mintica • Jormy |
| LEGENDARY CATCH ANNOUNCEMENT 🐙 KRAKEN CAPTURED! Chango's fishing party has captured the Kraken! Completion Time: 5:42 |
Ranks and failure
| Failure condition | Result |
|---|---|
| Timer reaches 0:00 | Kraken dives and escapes. |
| All available boats destroyed | Harpoon phase can no longer be completed. |
| All players leave the arena | Encounter ends and resets. |
| Final fishing lines repeatedly fail | If the team cannot reconnect before the timer expires, the Kraken escapes. |

Reserved encounters
Five further encounters are reserved and stay undesigned until the Kraken is built and learned from. What they establish is that the encounter system takes more than one boss — which is the argument for authoring the stage machine as data rather than as Kraken-specific code.
